MLD Contraindications

Some of the contraindications for having MLD Therapy
There are medical reasons that MLD may not be applicable, called contraindications. It is important to first consult your medical doctor and discuss any new changes in your medical history before you start therapy each time. It is important to make sure that you don’t have any other diseases that would be affected if lymphatic fluid is moved back towards your heart.

  • Acute Infections -  Cellulitis: Acute streptococcus skin infection
  • kidney (Renal) Failure
  • Cardiac Edema - Severe Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) and Hypertension (HTN)
  • Acute Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
  • Acute Bronchitis
  • Carotid Endoarterectomy
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Carotid-Sinus syndrome
  • History of Stroke - Cerebrovascular (CVA)
  • Cardiac Arrhythmia - Also called: irregular heartbeat
  • Pregnancy

Some conditions, though not strictly contraindications, is treated as precautions

  • Malignancies - Palliative care, pain relief
  • Bronchial Asthma - Patient must bring inhaler
  • History of Hypertension  (Controlled)​
